If you’re working on a multi-part project—whether it’s a book draft, website content, campaign planning, or research—organizing your conversations is key. ChatGPT Plus now offers folders to help you manage your chats more efficiently.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up a project folder and using it to organize your chats.
In the left-hand sidebar, hover your mouse near the top section where your pinned or recent chats are listed.
Click the “+” icon (or “New Folder” if visible).
Name your folder something clear and project-specific, like:
Sacred Soul Website
Mimi Writes a Book
Client: Adler Project
Press Enter to create the folder.
You’ll now see this folder listed in your sidebar under “Folders.”
Find the chat you want to move into the folder in the left-hand sidebar.
Hover over the chat until a three-dot menu (⋯) appears.
Click on the three dots, then choose “Add to Folder.”
Select the folder you just created.
You can also create a new folder from this menu if you haven’t already.
Repeat for each relevant chat to build out your project folder.
While folders don’t yet have a “New Chat Here” button, you can:
Start a new chat normally.
Rename it and immediately add it to your folder using the method above.
To keep things organized:
Hover over a chat.
Click the pencil icon next to the chat name.
Use a clear naming convention, such as:
Homepage Copy – Sacred Soul
Akashic Reading Service – Draft 1
Tarot FAQ – V2 Feedback
To keep your most important chats always visible:
Hover over the chat title in the sidebar.
Click the three dots (⋯) → select Pin.
Pinned chats appear at the top of your sidebar, separate from folders.
If you name all project chats with a consistent prefix (like Sacred Soul –
), you can easily retrieve them:
Use the search bar at the top of the sidebar.
Enter part of the title or keyword.
